The 6th Shenzhen Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition reflects dilemmas in modern life.       Although it has only shallow roots in arts and culture, the new-born city of Shenzhen has always encouraged the avant-garde to bud and grow. Such a tendency is evident in a succession of influential exhibitions diverse in experimental ink-wash painting, contemporary oil, graphic design, architecture and urbanism study held during the 12 months.       Based on this well-established foundation, the Shenzhen Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition (SZCSE) has added fuel to help pushing Shenzhen's artistic profile to the next level.       Launched by the He Xiangning Art Museum in 1998, the SZCSE has now become one of China's few "must-see" exhibitions that feature pioneering contemporary art. Somehow, since the last SZCSE was held in 2003, it has taken local audiences four years to again embrace this accla ... ...

With more than 40 years of history and global renown, Toni and Guy is a hairdresser you know you can trust. This Londonbased international company has more than 400 salons all over the world and has won numerous awards for its cutting edge styles. Bringing you the latest trends on the catwalk, Toni and Guy trains the hottest young hairdressers to give you the cut you need. Their newly opened salon in Guangzhou is conveniently located in the Tianhe District, a mere five-minute walk from the subway. Given their reputation, my expectations were high, but they did not disappoint. The staff are just the right mix of friendly and polite, with near perfect English. The place is elegantly decked out in black and white with ceiling to floor mirrors. First I was led to the rinsing chair where I was treated to a long and relaxing head massage with a fragrant and fruity shampoo. As soon as my designer clad stylist began working on my hair, I was offered a de ... ...

A respite from the urban hustle Wow, this is the most luxury I've wallowed in until now. It's not easy for me to describe the decor and the layout here. Entering one single room, it was mainly decorated in soothing earth tones with black and blonde wood and pleasantly cool small stones. It was unusually large as there was a large double bed in it with a desk and a sofa alongside. Yet these only took up a third of the room! The rest was the spa area. The most notable part is the un-drawing of the curtain to reveal a glass wall showing a beautiful lake and hills. Amazing! It should belong in Hainan Island or Saipan, right? Before the spa, the staff conduct a questionare about my body conditions. I was then recommended a Balinese Massage and an Anti-Stress Facial. The Balinese Massage uses Indian deep oil, which greatly helped relieve tension, while the facial used exclusive sap made from 100% floral extract and bee wax to help fight signs of fatigue. This is surely due to be a ... ...

Secrets of  Thai Herbs     After two days of insomnia, I finally made up my mind to find solace in a spa. After a hot water shower and a scrub, I was told to enter something called a "herb sauna tent", made from a natural ventilating fabric, which allows fresh air in while preventing steam from escaping. Apparently the deep breathing of herbs helps to get rid of nasty pollutants within. With some suspicion, I entered and sat on the rattan chair with the Thai herb waters bubbling below. But I shouldn't have worried – it was relaxing and allowed for easy breathing. Picking the lavender essence as my scent of choice, I was massaged in a "gentle French style", but not the expected three-dimensional Thai style. The legendary herb ball was which was stamped across my back is said to fortify blood circulation. I don't know whether my blood circulated more smoothly or not, but nevertheless, my skin became distinctly moisturized and ... ...
