Always trust the Italians Focaccino福卡其诺 We were starving when passing by this place without having had lunch (it was almost 3 o'clock). The waiter stopped us and said they wouldn't open for dinner until 5pm. What? A two hour wait? With a desperate look on our faces we turned to leave without any energy, but then she stopped us again and asked inside; moments later we were finally surprised to be let inside for an exceptionally late lunch (or early dinner?) with both a wide smile and a great window table. We were rescued, thank goodness! With such a warm-hearted and human welcome, we ordered the specialty, although they were still pre-cleaning the restaurant with smelly disinfectant. Authentic Northern Italian like focaccia is handmade from fresh dough direct from a top Italian baker. The name, which is mixed from Focaccia and Cappuccino aims to make real Italian cuisine with strong flavors. The Saute Escargot with White Wine Cream (白酒香炒田螺 RMB58) was fantastic, and at a v ... ...

Historically, Xiguan or "Old Guangzhou," located in Liwan District has been the center of the city's antiques and handicrafts industry. Many streets in the district, such as Yuansheng Xijie and Changshou Lu, have been firmly established in the jade trade since as far back as the Qing dynasty. However, as the reputation of the district hasgrown and businesses have expanded over the years, so too has the demand for additional space. In response to this, the government of Liwan District, in 1996, decided to build the Xiguan Curio Center, located on a short stretch of Lizhiwan Lu. In contrast to the surrounding bazaar streets, the aim of the center is to provide a special trading zone for certified antique dealers and handicraftsmen. The large wooden gate, with a poem inscribed in traditional characters on the center panel, marks the entrance to the Xiguan Curio Center. Stepping through, it does feel like a step back in time -- the red-tiled pagod ... ...

Macau by Jia Wei Tan Best beach for black sand Hác-Sá Beach Just beyond Cheoc Van Beach is Hác-Sá Beach, where your eyes will be deceived by a long curving stretch of unique black-tinged sand. Hác-Sá means 'black sand', and it is indeed an intriguing colour of deep silvery grey. Longer than Cheoc Van, this beach is also Macau's most popular beach with swimmers and sunbathers. Not only is Hác-Sá pretty long (around 1,300m), it also boasts some incredibly smooth sand, which has been well known as one of the "Eight Scenes in Macau". It's also the perfect place for stargazing at night, by the way... Hác-Sá used to be the best natural beach in Macau, yet it has been beaten by erosion somewhat over the years. However, due to the lovely texture of the sand, you'll feel comfortable sunbathing (warning: the color of the sand means it gets extremely hot during these long hot summer day ... ...

In truth, the Beef & Lamb Innards Soup is a milk-like broth that tastes delectable (fear not, dear readers, the different textures of innards give the soup a rather lovely distinctive character.) But if that's not your bag, then many more steamed soups can be chosen from their varied menu (it's best to get advice from local friends). Together with a plate of rice with Braised Lamb, it's a scrumptious meal without the inflated prices.
