Watanabe Kosuke, a Japanese worker living in Guangzhou, believes every Japanese child has a secret dream to become a professional baseball player. In his youth, he rushed to the diamond field and practiced every day after school until sunset. And yet, even now that he is fully grown and working in the PRD, he still plays baseball every weekend with Japanese, Chinese and American friends. So, last Sunday, I joined them for a game. Wearing a helmet, I became a batter. The bat was said to be only 800g but it seemed really heavy in my hands. I was also nervous as hell. "Play ball!" Kosuke San shouted, and threw the ball toward me. "Pong"! Unbelievably, I hit it clean. Not as difficult as I imagined! A few more swings later,I finally saw that it wasn't so much to do with your vision as your senses. Later, I attempted to pitch while Kosuke San became batter. He told me I had to throw the ball "super- fast" so that my opponent could not strike it. I i ... ...

Forgetting Sarah Marshall Fact: Hollywood has entered a new comedy golden age. AVAILABLE: MAY 1   DIRECTOR: NICK STOLLER STARS: JASON SEGEL, KRISTEN BELL, RUSSELL BRAND     So here is the final proof that Judd Apatow, the irresistible force behind 'Knocked Up', is the new King Midas of screwball comedy. Can this fellow do no wrong?    At first, his new film follows the usual formula – a guy's quest to get over the crushing heartbreak of being dumped by a cold beauty – with bawdiness, cutesy romance, and some shocking slapstick satire thrown into the mix. And yet, naturally, with Apatow's spiky script, 'Marshall' reinvents the formula for itself, and in doing so, wows both critics and audiences with its cynical yet ultimately conformist structure.    Jason Segel plays cuckold to the beautiful starlet Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). When she dumps him for an egotistical British rocker (slyly played by ... ...

Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden? What could have been extraordinary turns out to be excrement AVAILABLE: APRIL 27   DIRECTOR: MORGAN SPURLOCK   STARS: MORGAN SPURLOCK    Meet Morgan Spurlock -  man of TV populism, shameless self-promoter, and slapdash investigative journalist. He's the guy that brought us 'Super Size Me', a half-decent attack on the American junk food market. And now comes his follow up doco, a hunt for the world's most famous man; but it's the same old shake and fries: "Find and capture Osama Bin Laden - save the world from terror!" Oh, dear...    We follow Spurlock around the globe while discussing the principles of Islamic fundamentalism and US foreign policy. Some of the material here is tasteless, even offensive, and often conducted in a vulgar fashion. Spurlock's queries and summaries are D-grade in intelligence, and the man simply can't help get 'whacky' every 15 minutes (he even ... ...

Definitely, Maybe A romcom with brain power . . . AVAILABLE: March 1 DIRECTOR: ADAM BROOKS STARS: RYAN REYNOLDS, RACHEL WEISZ, ELIZABETH BANKS Some brave souls are already hailing this comedy the funniest, most intelligent romcom since Annie Hall. Tall order! Especially when you throw in Harry, Seattle, Bridget, and the four Richard Curtis movies. But still you can see why critical knickers are
getting twisted over this baby. Directed by Adam Brooks, Ryan Reynolds stars as advertising hotshot Will Hayes, a longtime Bill Clinton supporter who admits to having a "confused erotic history". He tells the audience about the strange beginnings of his 9-year-old daughter, Maya, yet from the opening sequences the viewer can clearly see that his tale is going to be a somewhat bumpy ride. We flashback to 1992, with young Will landing in the Big Apple to work as an ad campaigner for Clinton, the upcoming presidential hopeful. Over the next decade or so, we see th ... ...
